Dr. Yan Zhong joined Balboa Nephrology in May 2022 and practices in the Hillcrest area. She provides care in both hospital and outpatient clinics. In addition, she specializes in hypertension (high blood pressure) management.

Dr. Zhong offers consults for a wide range of kidney conditions. These include acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease (CKD), diabetic kidney disease, and glomerular disease. She also treats nephrotic syndrome, electrolyte and acid-base disorders, polyuria, and kidney-related bone and mineral conditions.

She attended medical school at Nanjing Medical University in China. She also earned a Ph.D. in Vitamin D metabolism from Rutgers University. After that, she completed her residency at UCLA–Kern Medical Center. She then completed a nephrology fellowship at USC Keck School of Medicine.

Following training, Dr. Zhong served as a teaching attending at Keck School of Medicine of USC and LAC+USC. During her time at USC, she also participated in clinical trials focused on diabetic kidney disease and resistant hypertension. She is fluent in Mandarin and English.
