Good kidney care depends on more than clinical knowledge. It also requires communication, trust, and making sure patients feel comfortable asking questions and sharing what they’re experiencing.
Jennifer Olesco, FNP-BC, is a nurse practitioner with Balboa Nephrology who supports patients throughout the South Bay, including FKC National City, FKC Marina Bay, DaVita San Ysidro, and, when needed, USRenal Eastlake.
For Jennifer, good care begins with listening.
“I listen to each patient, understand their needs, and treat them with kindness and respect. I want every patient to feel heard, supported, and truly cared for.”
Listening Builds Trust
Living with kidney disease can involve medications, lab work, dialysis treatments, frequent appointments, and changes in how someone feels from one day to the next. Patients may also have questions or concerns they aren’t sure how to bring up.
Jennifer believes taking the time to listen helps patients feel more comfortable participating in their care. It can also help the care team better understand what a patient is experiencing beyond what appears in a chart or lab result.
Her goal is to create an environment where patients feel respected as individuals and know their questions matter.
Part of a Connected Kidney Care Team
As a nurse practitioner, Jennifer works closely with Balboa nephrologists and other members of the care team. She may review symptoms, medications and lab results, discuss changes in health, answer questions, and help patients better understand their treatment plan.
That collaboration provides patients with another knowledgeable provider who understands their care while keeping them connected to their nephrologist.
Your nephrologist. Your NP. One connected care team.
