Joe Gonzales is a dedicated healthcare professional with extensive experience in critical care and primary care. He joined Balboa Nephrology Medical Group in 2025 as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Prior to this role, Joe worked for over a decade as a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit before transitioning as a nurse practitioner in primary care in 2019.

He earned his Doctorate of Nursing Practice in 2023 and his Master of Science in Nursing with a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2019, both from the University of San Diego. In addition to his clinical practice, Joe serves as an adjunct faculty professor for the Doctor of Nursing Practice/Family Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of San Diego, where he helps educate and mentor future nurse practitioners.

Joe is an active member of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) and currently serves as the Secretary for the AACN-Imperial Valley Chapter. His commitment to excellence in patient care is reflected in his Certified Critical-Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) credential.

Beyond his professional roles, Joe is passionate about global healthcare and volunteers with humanitarian medical mission organizations, including IMAHelps.org, Predisan.org, and KenyaRelief.org. Through these missions, he donates his time and expertise to provide medical care in underserved communities around the world.
