Get to Know Your Kidneys

Join us as we continue to raise awareness and focus on kidney care education.

Did you know? 37 million people in the United States are estimated to have chronic kidney disease (CKD). As many as 9 in 10 people are not aware that they have CKD. If you have diabetes or high blood pressure you are at higher risk for developing kidney disease.  Not many people know what the kidneys do until they learn they have kidney disease. Take a moment to learn what your hard working kidneys to do!

What are some of the ways kidneys keep you healthy?  Glad  you asked!  

  • Kidneys regulate your body’s fluid levels
  • Kidneys activate Vitamin D for healthy bones
  • Kidneys filter wastes from the blood
  • Kidneys regulate blood pressure
  • Kidneys remove acid that is produced by the cells of your body and maintain a healthy balance of water, salts, and minerals—such as sodium, calcium, phosphorus and potassium in your blood
