Dr. Hammes joined Balboa Nephrology Medical Group in 2013 and practices in the Hillcrest and Coronado areas. He specializes in kidney disease and cares for patients receiving hemodialysis at FMC and DaVita Dialysis units.

He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, Maryland. Next, he completed his residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego. He then completed his nephrology fellowship at UC San Diego (UCSD).

Outside of medicine, Dr. Hammes enjoys being outdoors with his children. He spends his free time running, surfing, and cycling. He also enjoys fishing, playing ukulele, cooking, and tinkering with his 1990 VW van.
